Professor Xu Zhongyu passed away. At the age of 105, he edited the first "University Chinese".

At the end of the 1970s, Xu Zhongyu, then the head of the Chinese Department of East China Normal University, and Yan Yaming, the president of Nanjing University, jointly initiated the resumption of the university language course that was interrupted by the adjustment of the national colleges and universities in 1952, and initiated the organization of some national college experts. Scholars, together to write a new "College Chinese" textbook. In 1981, the first textbook of "University Chinese" in New China was published in East China Normal University Press.
