Douglas County Sheriff Tony Sperlock reported that two male students entered the School of Science and Technology Engineering and Mathematics and fired in two classrooms. The two are students of this school, one of whom is underage. Parent Fernando Montoya told Denver Channel 7 TV station that the 17-year-old son was shot three times. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured. He had left the hospital and a friend of his son was also injured. The son told Montoya that a gunman entered the classroom and fired. The other gunman was already in the classroom. "He (son) said that a man took a pistol from the bag containing the guitar and started shooting." The police did not announce the name of the victim and said the deceased was an 18-year-old male. A number of medical officials said that the two wounded were dying and that others were in stable condition or had left the hospital. The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is located in the Highlands Ranch area of Douglas County, approximately 40 kilometers south of the state capital of Denver. The public charter school has kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools with approximately 1,850 students. The shooting took place in middle school. Sperlock said the injured students were over 15 years old.
